Chapter 1 Christmas Holidays at Last!
Chris Moult woke up. He stared at his alarm clock. It was not on. As he was wondering why it was not working he heard a big “boom.”
“Oh it’s just a storm, never mind.” he thought. He went back to sleep. Chris’ mother was a widow. His father had died four years ago. When he woke up, the clock said 8:37am! He was meant to wake up at 7 o clock. Anne, his Mum was going to the shops and he needed to be ready. Anne had almost finished packing her handbag and her grocery bags.
Then she asked, “Chris, what makes you late?”
He replied, “The electricity went off so my alarm clock stopped.” Then Chris’ rooster, named Chicken Pox, crowed, “Cock-a-doodle-doo.”
Anne said with a giggle, “Pox must be telling you it’s holidays!
“That’s right it’s holidays and I forgot! Thanks for reminding me, Pox!”
Chapter 2 A Shocking Disappointment.
Chris was completely ready to go and Anne was too. They got outside and ran to the car. It was pouring still. As they were going, Anne said she needed to drop off some goods to a neighbour. Chris saw a bolt of lighting. It struck a fifteen metre tall pine tree. It fell right on the Town Hall and the roof started to cave in! Anne saw it too and she drove swiftly to the destination. When they got there, they both got out and ran to observe the damage. Luckily there was no one in the Town Hall except for a man who was polishing the floor. He only had minor injuries: a cut hand, a bruised leg and a cut on his shoulder. Chris ran towards him. He seemed okay but his shoulder was giving him extreme pain.
Chapter 3 The Man is Helped.
Chris asked the man, “Do you need the ambulance?”
He said, “I do need it.” Chris ran and got his mobile phone. Then he phoned the ambulance. The ambulance was there in five minutes. He was rushed to the hospital.
“Let’s go and see if he is alright,” suggested Anne. When Chris and Anne came into the man’s room in the hospital, they went and sat next to his bed. They asked him a few questions and this is what they found out: He was orphaned when he was a child and his name is Henry Crologe (crow-loge). He managed to find a job as a floor washerman. He has been working with them ever since. He got the job and he hasn’t got enough money to buy a house.
Chapter 4 Henry Crologe wants a House.
Henry was getting tears in his eyes as he said,
“I only a get a very small amount of money a day and a house costs $800,000.00. I’ll never have enough money to buy a house and I’ll just have to keep living in the cold, dark train station. I have never been to school so I was lucky to get that job. I don’t know how to spell dog. Is it K-F-I or N-T-G? I don’t know.” As Anne was listening, she looked as though she was listening to something far off. After He was finished talking, Anne said quietly,
“You could live with us when your shoulder is better. We have a guest room up stairs. Would you like to come?”
Chapter 5 Henry is on the Move.
Henry was so happy, that he was beginning to tremble.
He said, “I w… w… w… w… will if you l… l… l…let me! My shoulder is feeling better and the doctor said I can leave tomorrow! Henry was so excited! The next day, Henry was awake at 5am. He had his bag packed to move. Chris and Anne got there at 7am and Henry was already waiting. Chris had made the room ready for him. Henry’s room was next to Chris’ so if he needed something, Chris would come to the rescue. Henry was well looked after from then on. He was so kind to Chris and Anne and Chris’ rooster Chicken Pox. Chris and Anne liked him very much too.
Chapter 6 Two Amazing Excitements
Then one night in April about ten months after Henry had started renting the guest room, he asked Anne,
“Will you marry me?”
Anne replied, “Maybe. We will have to pray to God about it first. Are you a Christian?”
Henry said, “No, but I’d like to be one. Could you help me?” So Anne got out her bible and showed Henry her favourite verse.
John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only son that who ever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” Henry loved the verse.
“He said, “Now may I ask the Lord Jesus into my heart?”
“Do you really mean it?” asked Anne.
“Yes I do. I have known for a long time that I am a sinner and I need to be saved. But nobody told me how to be.”
“Just pray and ask Him to forgive you. He will.”
Henry prayed, “Dear Jesus, thank you that you died for my sins. Please forgive me for everything I’ve done. Thankyou that I can have life in you now. Amen.”
Anne said, “Yes, I will marry you. Now you are a man of God and you will be a good leader of our home.”
Henry whispered, “Now I’m glad the tree fell on me because now I am a Christian!”
Anne whispered back happily, “Every thing happens for the good of those who love Him!”
